Saint Anne is traditionally recognized as the patron saint of mothers, grandmothers, pregnant women, and women in labor and the family. July 26 also honors her husband Saint Joaquim, who is the father of Mary & the grandfather of Christ.
I love the imagery on this holy medal. Saint Anne is shown with Mary on her lap, while she teaches her and passes on the Wisdom that flows through family matriarchs. In addition to being the protectress of the family, Saint Anne is the patroness of unmarried women, pregnant women and teachers.
Tradition suggests that Anne and her husband Joachim were elderly and had been childless for many years before Mary came, making them powerful intercessors for those seeking to conceive.
This lovely medal is recast from a vintage original from the Basilica of St. Anne de Beaupre in Quebec. Countless healings and miracles have been attributed to Saint Anne by pilgrims who have visited her basilica in Quebec. It is said Christ will never turn down a favor asked for by his Mother and the same goes for those asked for by his Grandmother Saint Anne.
