The Sodalis Fancy Etched Cable Bracelet features a Sodalis Mariae medal modeled from a vintage Art Deco French medal dating back to the 1930's. This Sodalist medal was originally a devotional medal associated with the Sodality of Our Lady, also known as the Sodality of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Inscribed with "Sodalis Mariae" (Latin for "Companion of Mary") it's a visual dedication to the devotion of the Virgin Mary for all who are called to Her today, both Catholics and non-Catholic - all of us are Her children.
The chain is light, but chunky with 14mm links. The medal is approximately 1.25 long and removeable from the clasp so it can be worn on your other Whispering Goddess bracelets and so the bracelet can be worn as a solo chain. It's made at 7.5" and 8", but we can customize the length as well.
The origins of the Sodality of Our Lady trace back to the Sodality of the Blessed Virgin Mary and it's roots in 1563, when a Jesuit priest, Jean Leunis, founded the first sodality in Rome for students at the Roman College. These groups aimed to foster spiritual growth, charity, and devotion to Mary among laypeople and clergy. Over time, sodalities spread globally, particularly through Jesuit institutions, becoming prominent in Catholic communities by the 17th and 18th centuries.
