The Christo Rey is an amazing double sided holy medal that features Our Lady of Guadalupe and Saint Michael. It is one of our most treasured finds. The original medal dates back to 1682 when it was cast as a token of gratitude to be given to the generous patrons who helped build the "Templo Expiatorio a Cristo Rey" - the early basilcia in Mexico City created to honor Our Lady of Guadalupe. It was started in 1680 and completed in 1709.
We aquired one of these original medals from a monk who held it in his collection for generations, it was passed on to him by another holy man. It is a symbol of the divine protection of the Virgen de Guadalupe and Saint Michael. The combined power of the two is palpable. We have paired it here with simple Black Jet and clad in Sterling Silver. The original medal is bronze and had remnants of paint on Her garments.
It is absolutely beautiful all by itself or layered with our other designs. This necklace is long enough to be worn doubled quite comfortably and is shown double wrapped.
Saint Michael is known and respected in many of the World Religions including Judaism, Christianity and Islam. He protects us from evil and many miracles have been attributed to him over the ages. He is leads the Angelic realm and is often depicted slaying the dragon who symbolizes evil. Michael is the patron saint of police officers, soldiers and doctors. By invoking his help he has been known to miraculously prevent accidents and his assistance in the search of Truth is always at hand to those who call on him.
The medal is 2" tall and 1 1/4 inches wide. It's remarkable.
