The Our Lady of Carmel - Star of the Sea Faceted Onyx Necklace's is a single strand necklace with a focal point Our Lady of Mount Carmel medal with Saint Teresa of Avila on the reverse side. It's modeled from the an 18th century Lady of Carmel holy medal that was part of a monks personal collection. The Miraculous Three Day Novena to Our Lady of Mount Carmel sparked a desire for me to learn more about Our Lady of Carmel and wow, what an amazing history is waiting to be discovered if you have never encountered her story before!
The devotion to Our Lady of Mount Carmel is the oldest known devotion to the Blessed Mother and is said to go back 800 years before her birth. The inspiration for this necklace comes from a wonderful Three Day Novena to Our Lady of Mount Carmel. The roses between the decades symbolize Our Lady, but also Saint Therese the Little Flower, who like Saint Teresa of Avila (on the reverse of the medal) was a Carmelite nun devoted to Our Lady of Mount Carmel.
A star shaped Miraculous Medal has been added to the crown clasp in acknowledgement of Mary's role as the the Star of the Sea, as she is beacon for us all when we encounter the rough waters of life. The raindrop shaped crystals cascading from rose around the face of the Madonna and Child represent the graces Mary showers us with every day, but especially when we ask her for them.
The medals are made of bronze clad with Sterling Silver and hand cast using the lost wax method in New England. The original medals are findings from Europe that have been collected over the years by our owner and designer Ginny Parker. Designed as "everyday" wear to keep the Special Graces promised by Our Lady close at hand.
