The Cristo Rey Medal is an amazing double sided holy medal that features Saint Michael the Archangel and Our Lady of Guadalupe. The original medal dates back to 1682 when it was cast as a token of gratitude to be given to the generous patrons who helped build the "Templo Expiatorio a Cristo Rey" - the early basilcia in Mexico City created to honor Our Lady of Guadalupe. We acquired one of these original medals from a monk who held it in his collection for generations, it was passed on to him by another holy man. It is a symbol of the divine protection of the Virgen de Guadalupe and Saint Michael. The combined power of the two is palpable.
It is absolutely beautiful all by itself or layered with our other designs.
On the front of the medal:
"Virgin of Guadalupe, the mysterious ayate, an image that is venerated by the faithful. As proof of her apparition on December 12th, 1531, the virgin impressed her image on a cloth woven from maguey fiber that cloaked the mystic, clairvoyant Aztec Indian, Juan Diego Infinite are the favors granted by the Virgin of Guadalupe. Catholic or not, millions of us take refuge under her comforting starry mantle. She is our Guadalupe. mother of all."
On the back of the medal:
Saint Michael is known and respected in many of the World Religions including Judaism, Christianity and Islam. He protects us from evil and many miracles have been attributed to him over the ages. He is leads the Angelic realm and is often depicted slaying the dragon who symbolizes evil. Michael is the patron saint of police officers, soldiers and doctors. By invoking his help he has been known to miraculously prevent accidents and his assistance in the search of Truth is always at hand to those who call on him.
The medal is 2" tall and 1 1/4 inches wide. It's remarkable.
