Legend tells us Saint Dominic Guzman, a Spanish monk traveled into France in 1208 on a quest. Seeking spiritual guidance, he went into the forest near Toulouse, France to pray, when Mary appeared surrounded by angels telling him to pray her "psalter". While historians disagree on the exact circumstances, this moment is considered to be "how the rosary came to be". Six hundred plus years later, when Mary appeared to Saint Bernadette at Lourdes, she asked her to say the Rosary too.
The Lourdes Illumination medal represents both these encounters. The original 1908 medal was given to pilgrims to Lourdes, France and the image of Mary giving Saint Dominic the Rosary is on the back. Meticulously recast by our New England silversmiths, this beautiful medal has an M on the front surrounded by thirteen stars. Its symbolism is deep, complex and open to your own divinely inspired interpretations and prayer practices. Like the Rosary, it's not bound by any formal religion or prayer practice.
One of our most popular collections, the Moonglow Collection shown above features the Lourdes Illumination Medal with Our Lady of the Rosary, Fleurs de Lis, Labradorite and our beloved Saint Joan of Arc.
These lustrous silver pearls can be dressed up or down.
